Every country is known for its customs and traditions, and all have their own way of living. It’s interesting to learn about the culture of others and know their beliefs, values, and languages. When you explore the traditions of other countries, you open your mind to diversification and gain knowledge about a different lifestyle. Arabs are rich in culture. From inviting the guest to their homes to eating, traveling, and greeting, their ways are interesting to make people feel their culture. Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula. Their population is more than 26 million people, and they are led by a monarch type of government. Their rules and regulations are based on the principles of Islam. They honor their guests the most because they believe guests are the blessings sent by Allah. The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the homeland of the two holiest shrines of Muslims – Mecca and Medina.
When it comes to family, they follow a patriarchal structure where the male dominates the family and own the custody of the children. The man in the families is also responsible for the public and work affairs while the women take care of the homes and children. The dress code in KSA makes men and women cover themselves with a veil. For a woman, it’s called cloak (Abayah) while for a man it’s called robe (throbe) along with white caps (taiga).
Arabic is the official language followed in KSA which is also used in prayers, religious rituals, poetry, lectures, communication, and also for business purposes. Their education system is deeply driven by the Islamic religion. Acquiring basic education is compulsory in Saudi Arabia but still the literacy rate of men is higher than women. According to Sabry, 2012, KSA has highest number of graduates in the Middle East. Their education system focuses on providing quality education to the students so students shall come out as great leaders of tomorrow. Apart, from this, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also strict in following their laws and punish those who break their laws. For example, eating pork and alcohol aren’t allowed even the purchase and import and those who oppose this law attract severe punishment for them.
The culture in Saudi Arabia doesn’t allow men and women to interact freely in public places, the eye contact in between the opposite genders is also against their teachings. If a man wants to move freely with a woman then they should be bounded in a marriage contract which makes the relationship legal for them. In the marriage, the man owes dowry to the woman in the light of their elderly parents. If the relationship between husband and wife worsens then the parents have the right to settle the issues between them. Muslims in Ramadan pays the visit to their worship places for the pilgrimage and celebration of the Holy festivities in Mecca and Medina.
There’s a lot to mention about Saudi Arabia because they have a great history. The Mecca Medina is the place which is believed to be guarded by the angels of Heaven. The only flaw in their culture is they don’t give power to women. The power to speak, the power to lead, and the power to vote. If they can come up with women empowerment then KSA will become the best culture amongst all.
